iPhone13 Mini is clearly still on the way — despite the iPhone12 Mini flop

The launch of the iPhone 12 mini is not particularly good, and there are reports that Apple is prepared to end production in favor of the more popular iPhone 12 model. This news does not bode well for the iPhone 13 mini.

Or does it? According to Apple leaker John Prosser, the iPhone 13 mini will still be available. Even if that means Apple won't make so many this time around.

Prosser suggests that the iPhone 12 mini was at a disadvantage thanks to the release of the refreshed iPhone SE in mid-2020. After all, it was a smaller version of the iPhone and the lower price was very attractive. It also featured the same A13 Bionic chipset as the iPhone 11, which was the best Apple could offer at the time the new SE was released.

The kind of people who would buy an iPhone 12 mini were also the kind of people who would buy an iPhone SE, meaning that Apple was effectively competing with itself. Prosser claims that there will be no iPhone SE update in 2021, so the iPhone 13 mini will have no such disadvantage.

There may be a larger iPhone SE Plus, which is likely a refreshed version of last year's SE. However, it is not clear what that phone would include beyond a larger screen and design. Therefore, it is impossible to predict how the iPhone SE Plus will affect iPhone 13 sales, but it is not specifically intended for the kind of people who would normally buy an iPhone 13 mini. [With the iPhone 13 mini joined by the iPhone, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max, there will be four flagship iPhones this year. But that may not be all. Rumors abound that a foldable iPhone is in the works, but recent rumors suggest that the iPhone Flip is still quite a ways off. We also heard that a portless iPhone may also be introduced this year.

Some reports suggest that only one portless iPhone will appear this year, and Prosser himself speculates that both iPhone 13 Pro models may go this route. Whether or not there is merit to either of these rumors, however, cannot be determined at this early stage.

In any case, Apple's 2021 iPhone lineup is likely to be as jam-packed as ever. And fans of the smaller iPhone will not be disappointed.
