The Samsung Galaxy S21 is a great phone, but a bit pricey. While $200 cheaper than the Galaxy S20, $799 is still a lot of money these days. There is some good news, however.

Sources told SamMobile that there will be a new Samsung phone with the model number SM-G990B. Apparently, this could be the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE, a lower-priced model that will replace the regular S21.

It is not certain if this is the S21 FE, but the fact that the regular S21 model number is SM-G991B suggests that this new device is within the S21 range and somewhere below the current model.

SamMobile notes that similar model numbers have been applied to LTE versions of Galaxy flagships in the past. However, this does not appear to be the case this time. We have already heard rumors of an LTE-only Galaxy S21 that may be released outside the US, but that model was the SM-G990F.

This single letter difference could be a major indicator of change, but it means that this model is probably not just a Galaxy S21 without a 5G antenna. Furthermore, after Samsung's success with the Galaxy S20 FE, it seems only natural that it would make a cheaper version of its latest flagship.

Unfortunately, the leaks do not reveal much information about a possible Galaxy S21 FE, which, according to SamMobile, will come in 5G, 128GB and 256GB storage variants, run Android 11, and come in gray, pink, violet and white.

As for pricing, the Galaxy S20 FE will cost $699, $100 less than the Galaxy S21. However, it has also been seen on sale for $599. The Galaxy S21 FE is expected to be at most $699.

Following the example of last year's Galaxy S20 FE, we can expect the S21 FE to have most of the same flagship features as the standard Galaxy S21. However, Samsung will have to cut corners somewhere.

The Galaxy S21 already features many of the same "downgrades" that Samsung employed in the S20 FE, including a plastic back and lower screen resolution. Samsung may also make other trade-offs, such as a processor, RAM, or a less capable camera.

But for now we can only speculate. Given that we won't see the S21 FE until later this year, we will have to patiently wait and see what Samsung has planned.
