Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Z Fold 3 leak reveals first specifications

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 folding smartphones are expected to arrive later this year, and thanks to a new leak, we finally have some details on what upgrades both models will offer.

According to SamMobile, Samsung has assigned unique model numbers to both next-generation handsets: the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is labeled SM-F926 and the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip (called Z Flip 2 or Z Flip 3) is SM-F711. The former should offer "at least" 256GB as a storage option, while the latter should offer 128GB and 256GB options.

If SamMobile's information is correct, both foldable phones will run Android 11 and come with One UI 3.5.

Samsung's insider site also narrowed down the release dates for the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3 based on software information. Since the company just debuted One UI 3.1 on the Samsung Galaxy S21 and Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra series, these phones will likely launch in the second half of this year.

Once One UI 3.5 arrives, it will introduce new software features (perhaps dedicated to the Z Fold and Z Flip folding features). Current Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip owners can run multiple apps at once on these phones' extended displays, but we would certainly welcome multitasking tools.

The Samsung Mobile leak did not spill the price of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3, but it did silence our hopes for a cheaper version of the company's foldable. The report said there is "no evidence" of a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Lite at this time.

That doesn't mean a scaled-down version of the Galaxy Z Fold doesn't exist, but an "affordable" foldable phone is probably far from a release.SamMobile is not always accurate, but exclusive information about unreleased products is usually reliable. Samsung has released a new version of the One UI every year with its Galaxy Note lineup. However, with the Note series rumored to be coming to an end, a foldable phone may instead top the fall keynote. In any case, it will be interesting to see how Samsung's future smartphone strategy unfolds. (Sorry, couldn't resist)
