Samsung's Galaxy S21 removes several key features of the Galaxy S20, but in doing so Samsung appears to have made its latest flagship phone easier to repair.

iFixit released a comprehensive disassembly video of the Galaxy S21 and found that repairing the phone is significantly easier than its predecessor.

The simpler repair process is due to the Galaxy S21's switch from the S20's glass back to a plastic back. The flat display compared to the curved display of the S20 also makes the S21 a more easily repairable device. In addition, the display cable is completely removable in the S21, further improving repairability.

Samsung's cost-cutting measures seem to benefit users at least, and should soften the blow for those feeling disappointed by the removed features. [But unfortunately, it's not all good news: the Galaxy S21 scored a rather poor 4 out of 10 on the iFixit rating scale, even though it was deemed easier to repair than the previous model.

The main reasons for this dismal score are how tricky it is to remove the screen and the fact that the battery is held in place with glue.

While the Galaxy S21's improved overall ease of repair is undoubtedly a good thing, Samsung still trails its competitors. iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro scored a more respectable 6 out of 10 on the same scale.
