The long-rumored Google Pixel Watch may be on its way to battle the Apple Watch 6, Samsung Galaxy Watch 3, and all the other best smartwatches on the market.

While Google has brushed off speculation about its own smartwatch, its many patents and acquisitions in the wearables space (ahem, Fitbit) indicate that the Pixel Watch's debut is a matter of "when," not "if."

The Pixel Watch will be Google's first smartwatch and the most important Wear OS option. No, it is not our favorite wearable software, but it will be improved by optimized hardware.

Google also knows that smartwatches and fitness trackers are one of the fastest growing consumer technology categories. It would be wise to bring out its own models as accessories for Pixel smartphones, like the new Google Pixel 4a and Google Pixel 5.

So when will the Pixel Watch appear? And what will it look like? What features will set it apart? Here are all the rumors we know about the Google Pixel Watch release date, price, design, etc.

The Google Pixel Watch was first leaked in 2018. Evan Blass, who has provided reliable information on a number of unannounced technology devices, stated that the Pixel Watch would launch that year.

At the time, Google silenced these rumors and we did not hear about the rumored smartwatch again for several months. Then in 2019, sources told Nikkei Asian Review that the Pixel Watch would finally arrive with the Pixel 4. Yes, that did not happen either.

So is Google planning a smartwatch for 2020, or is the Pixel Watch leaked so little that it's unlikely to appear within a few months; 2021 might be a better bet; and the Pixel Watch is still in the works.

The price of the Google Pixel Watch will not be as high as the Apple Watch. There aren't many Google Pixel Watch price leaks to reference, but we would put it in the mid-price range; the Apple Watch Series 6 and Galaxy Watch 3 both start at $399, so we expect Google to try to get slightly below those two watches.

It won't be the cheapest option in stores, but it could be in the $200 to $350 price range depending on size and LTE variants. Again, this is just speculation based on what we know about the pricing strategies of Google's other hardware divisions.

Interestingly, we have heard absolutely nothing about the design of the Pixel Watch. We haven't seen any credible design leaks, renderings, or even CAD drawings since May, when news of the smartwatch broke.

However, we have seen some great concept art. These images are by designer James Tsai. Inspired by the company's "Made By Google" device, Tsai provided playful renderings with even Google-like names like "milk white," "sweet papaya," and "boba black."

Germany's WinFuture magazine reported that Google is working on three Pixel Watch models, codenamed "Ling," "Triton," and "Sardine."

However, it is unclear exactly what these Pixel Watch codenames mean. However, it is unclear what exactly these codenames mean. Given the names, it is plausible that these devices will come in different sizes and perhaps with different specs.

One may be lifestyle-focused, leveraging $40 million in smartwatch technology from Fossil, which it acquired last year. Another could benefit from Google's ownership of Fitbit, making it one of the best fitness trackers available.

In that regard, it is worth taking a gander at the ET News report that Google has placed a large order for body movement tracking sensors from Samsung. Qualcomm's latest smartwatch chip, combined with rumors of onboard storage and LTE connectivity, could make for a well-specified Pixel Watch.

Not surprisingly, Google will bundle its own Wear OS platform with the Pixel Watch. However, its software could be different or better.

Popular Wear OS features on third-party smartwatches include continuous heart rate monitoring with Google Fit, contactless payments with Google Pay, and hands-free access to Google Assistant.

Google's own smartwatches are expected to integrate better with Google's hardware ecosystem.
