How to Watch Marvel Movies in order

Finding a way to watch Marvel movies in order is not as easy a task as you might think. What is easier is finding out where to watch Marvel movies. Almost everything in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is gathered in Disney Plus. It's like the longest-running superhero TV show in history.

The Complete Guide to How to Watch Marvel Movies offers two main ways to watch the Marvel movies: either relive the theatrical releases and sort them by release date, or follow the Avengers' trajectory in chronological order. From Tony Stark's beta testing of the first suit to Spider-Man's trip overseas, you'll enjoy it right off the bat.

And while Disney Plus is the home of (most of) the MCU, Disney doesn't own all the films (some may stay far from home forever).

So for those who have already seen them all in theatrical release order, we've gone above and beyond. Oh, and for the upcoming MCU films. While this article is updated with the latest release dates, our Marvel movie release calendar is a complete guide to when your favorite superheroes will next hit the big screen.

First up, we've organized the Marvel movies in the order of the events that take place in the Infinity Saga. It is odd that the films were not released in this order, but then again, neither was the Star Wars trilogy. This order isn't perfect either, with flashbacks here and there breaking the strict narrative arc, but it's all you need to understand the twists and turns on the road from Tony Stark to Groot.

Re-watching Disney's Marvel movies in order (and turning to Marvel movies from other studios) is an ideal way to spend time while waiting for the next Wonder Vision episode to drop. I'm not going to spoil anything here, but this show is going to break new ground in what is happening in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

If you've seen most or all of the movies and want to change things up a bit, it's a fun attempt to re-watch the Marvel movies in chronological order and see the events as they happened (with flashbacks inserted just to confuse you).

Some plot points may become more solid, and some plot holes may seem more obvious. And so on from 2011's "Captain America" to 2019's "The First Avenger": and from 2011's "Captain America: The First Avenger" to 2019's "Captain Marvel," the rest will seem more sensible. It must.

I recommend watching the Marvel films in the order of their release for several reasons. It's fun to see how the special effects and actors evolve over the years, you don't feel as bad about skipping through if you don't want to do a complete run-through, and frankly, the order of release tells a stronger story.

Below you will see that we have divided Marvel into three phases, or groupings used to indicate the major chapters of the "Infinity Saga". This is a natural way to organize your own Marvel movie marathon.

Phase 1

Phase 2

Phase 3

The list of release dates for Phase 4 continues to change as COVID-19 halts production of films worldwide and holds back many multiplexes. The Black Widow is the next scheduled MCU film, but its release date could be pushed back again, as May 2021 still seems a bit early given the social distance. It is possible, though, that it will be a surprise release with Disney Plus Premiere Access.

The biggest news about the next MCU film is that Tom Holland's third Spider-Man film will reportedly feature other Spider-Men. Yes, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield (as well as Alfred Molina and Kirsten Dunst) will return. It smells like a live-action "Spider-Verse".

Speculation based on the following list of movies has some wondering where the Avengers will find their next leader. Some believe that Carol Danvers herself will take the reins of the team, but we will have to wait until July 2022 to see if that fan theory has any merit. Below is a short calendar of when to expect future Marvel movies (in order of theatrical release).

Phase 4

They say they don't want to see every movie, only the great ones. Critics liked "Black Panther" and "Thor: Ragnarok. But "Endgame" also has "The Incredible Hulk" (remember the pre-Ruffalo Hulk?). So, for those of you trying to find the best MCU movies, we have your back.

We've organized the Marvel movies in order of their Rotten Tomatoes score, which gives rich insight into how these films were received critically.

All but three of the MCU's Marvel movies are on Disney Plus, a streaming service that most MCU fans will want when they want to review The Avengers. On top of that, all Disney Plus movies can be saved offline, which is handy if you're traveling soon.

Hopefully all 23 MCU films will eventually be available for streaming on Disney Plus, but there are reasons to believe that both "The Incredible Hulk" and "Spider-Man" will not, as they are owned by Sony and Universal, respectively.

Interestingly, "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" just left Netflix and has not landed on another streaming service.

For more information, read the Disney Plus review.

"The Incredible Hulk" is not available on any streaming service, so you will have to rent or buy it from Amazon, Apple, and various other sites.

"Spider-Man: Homecoming" is available as a video-on-demand movie on DirecTV, Sling TV, and FXNow, and "Spider-Man: Far From Home" is also available on DirecTV and Starz.

At this time, those who do not want to add Disney's monthly fee will be able to rent the rest on iTunes or Amazon for $1.99 to $3.99 each.
