Facebook is keen to emphasize that the Messenger update is not only about communicating with VR gamers, but is also a tool for broader interaction in and around virtual experiences.

"We also want to bring people together and make it easier than ever to join friends and family in VR. That means making it easier to find friends and family in VR," Facebook explains.

"You can compete on BeatSaber, meet them on Venues to watch them perform, or chat about what's on the menu for dinner without taking your headset off.

Included in this update is the App Lab app, a new way for developers to share and test their latest ideas and ongoing projects with the Oculus community. This will make it easier for developers to get feedback and eliminate the need for users to go through the complicated process of side-loading software.

Update v25 will be rolled out gradually. Thus, some users may get it earlier than others.
