MacBook Pro2021 Should end Dongle Hell — Here's how

Apple has gone fairly minimalist with its recent MacBook Pro models. But is a laptop really portable if you have to carry around dongles and other adapters just to stay connected to your Mac?

Apple may solve this problem with the next MacBook Pro model. And according to a trusted Apple analyst, it will include more ports.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo told investors in a note discovered by MacRumors that the 2021 version of the MacBook Pro will be "equipped with more types of I/O, and most users may not need to purchase additional dongles. It is unclear exactly what new ports will be added, but it appears to be a major focus of Apple's future lineup.

The 16-inch MacBook Pro and 13-inch Intel-based models have four Thunderbolt 3 ports, while the MacBook Pro with M1 has only two (actually one of our biggest complaints about this model.) The MacBook Pro has these ports, while many other Apple devices, such as the iPhone, connect using Lightning.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman previously reported that the 2021 MacBook Pro will bring back the SD card reader in addition to other changes (farewell Touch Bar) The return of the SD card slot is dependent on removable storage creators and individuals who rely on removable storage. It will also eliminate the need to connect a dongle, which will reduce the headaches of carrying a MacBook around.

According to Kuo, we may see these changes as early as the third quarter of this year with the return of 14- and 16-inch models with a variety of different ports added.

Apple, of course, has been tight-lipped about the situation. However, given the lack of access that MacBook Pro laptops offer without additional ports, this is a great decision for those who are considering switching from PC to Mac but feel hamstrung by the lack of options. Nothing has been confirmed about a future MacBook Pro, but if you are currently on the fence about purchasing a new MacBook Pro, it might be wise to wait and see if this rumor comes to fruition.
