Asus ROG Phone 5 Leak reveals stunning RGB design - and huge 6,000mAh battery

Images of the Asus ROG Phone 5 are starting to leak, first the front and now the heavily redesigned back.

This is thanks to a tweet from Mukul Sharma (stufflistings on Twitter). The images he claims came from the Chinese social network Weibo, where the previous ROG Phone leak also came from.

These images show a noticeable change in the phone's logo and RGB lighting: instead of the ROG symbol lighting up, it is now a dot matrix display.

While only the arrow graphic is visible in this image, the second screenshot, also included in the tweet, appears to show some RGB lighting customization options in the "ROG Vision" menu.

Meanwhile, the ROG logo has been moved to the corner and is more subtle than on past models. Nevertheless, the clean lines are quite different from those seen on regular Android phones.

Also visible on the back is the letter "05" next to the RGB strip. Rumor has it that the number on this phone may actually be 5 instead of 4. This is based on superstition in Taiwan, where Asus is based, and the number 4 is considered unlucky, just as the number 13 is unlucky in the West.

Finally, we can see from this image that the cooling vents originally present on the Asus ROG Phones are missing; it is possible that Asus has found a new way to cool them and they have been removed entirely. This would make the phone look much cleaner and allow the phone to be effectively waterproofed like other major flagship phones.

In addition to the design changes, the ROG Phone 5 will have the exact same 6,000 mAh battery as the ROG Phone 3 and will be capable of 65W fast charging, according to a leak on Weibo. It will also feature a tri-camera setup with a 64 MP quad-bayer sensor on the back, and as for RAM, given that it will likely be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 888 processor, we expect it to have 12 GB to 16 GB of memory. Furthermore, a gaming phone worth its salt requires a high refresh display, and a 144 Hz display is most likely to be included in this device.

The last leaked ROG Phone 4 had a significantly revamped front design compared to the ROG Phone 3. The large display bezel for the front camera is gone, but the large chin bezel that obstructs the view still appears to be present. However, the punch-hole camera is not suitable for playing games, so a pop-up camera or, if Asus really wants to go high-tech, a camera under the display is a possibility.
