Oculus Quest2 is getting 2 killer Upgrades next month

Buyers and owners of the Oculus Quest 2 are in for a treat, as Oculus has announced that the VR headset will support multiple user accounts and device-specific app sharing starting next month.

This means that multiple users will be able to log into one headset and share the same library of apps. In other words, there is no longer a need to purchase multiple headsets or duplicate apps in order for everyone to be able to use them the way they want.

The upgrade will be rolled out to Quest 2 owners as an experimental feature and then to the original Oculus Quest headset. App developers can stop sharing their apps until February 12.

After February 13, app sharing will be automatically enabled, suggesting that this feature will begin rolling out to users around this time.

Primary Oculus Quest 2 account holders will be able to add up to three secondary accounts to their headset, all of which will be able to access eligible shared apps from that single headset. Of course, Oculus wants you to buy more than one, so this feature will be extended in the future to allow primary account holders to share apps between three different Quest devices.

According to the announcement article, the number of secondary devices and accounts may change as they get customer feedback, so this is the plan at this time anyway. Therefore, these numbers may increase or decrease. It is also not clear whether Oculus will prevent people who do not live together from sharing the app.

Unfortunately, there are some caveats to this system. Secondary account holders who purchase their own apps are not allowed to share their apps with other users. For some reason, this is a right reserved only for primary account holders. However, shared apps can run on multiple devices at the same time, as long as the primary account is not trying to use both headsets.

All of these accounts must be linked to a Facebook account.

Either way, this is great news for Oculus Quest owners. According to the announcement, this is meant to "grow the VR community, promote the app, and prevent piracy."

Whatever you think about it, the fact that you will be able to have your own account space without necessarily having to spend $299 on your own headset is definitely a good thing. Especially if it means I won't have to buy the same apps and games over and over again.
