Acer Predator Triton300SE is the easiest way to get Nvidia RTX3060

If you've been desperately searching for a new Nvidia GeForce RTX 3000 series graphics card to no avail, Acer may have the solution to your problem with the new Predator Triton 300 SE and Helios 300.

The Triton 300 SE is arguably the more interesting laptop with the GeForce RTX 3060, although the latter has revamped specs and access to the powerful GeForce RTX 3080. This is because Nvidia has not released a desktop version of the GeForce RTX 3060 and currently only has a GeForce RTX 3060 Ti.

There is also a refreshed Nitro 5 laptop, available with the latest Intel 11th generation Core H35 series processor, AMD Ryzen 5000 series CPU, and GeForce RTX 3080 graphics.

The most interesting of the new Acer gaming laptops is the Triton 300 SE, which aims to mix the latest gaming hardware in a relatively slim and lightweight 12.7 x 9 x 0.7-inch package.

Despite this relative slimness, the notebook manages to incorporate an 11th generation Core H35 series Special Edition processor with clock speeds up to 5 GHz, in either Core i5 or Core i7 variants The CPU is combined with up to 24 GB of DDR RAM. Storage includes 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB PCIe Gen3 NVMe SSDs.

The star GPU is the GeForce RTX 3060, a significant performance improvement over the GeForce RTX 2060 found in the previous generation of gaming laptops. This graphics card is matched with a 14-inch IPS panel with a resolution of 1920 x 1080, a refresh rate of 144 Hz, and a brightness of 300 nits. With this graphics card and display combination, the Triton 300 SE should be able to run an excellent group of games at frame rates that take advantage of the faster refresh rate.

All the hardware is largely contained in an all-metal, unobtrusive and clean chassis. Unlike other Acer Predator machines, the Triton 300 SE doesn't feel like a "gaming laptop. At least, it does when the three-zone RGB keyboard lighting is turned off. The port selection is also decent, with one USB-C with Thunderbolt 4, HDMI, two USB 3.2 Gen, and a 3.5mm audio jack completing the connection list.

Other features include: Intel Killer Wi-Fi 6 AX1650, Dolby DTS X: Ultra Audio support, and a far-field microphone with Cortana with Voice support.

Scheduled to be available in the UK in February starting at £1,399 and in the US in March starting at $1,399, the Triton 300 SE is a powerful yet portable gaming laptop worth considering.

If you want to get the full GeForce RTX experience in laptop form, look to the refreshed Acer Predator Helios 300.

Retaining the previous model's angular design that bordered on providing adequate cooling without making the laptop thicker, the new Helios 300 is now available with GeForce RTX 3080 and the latest Intel processors. It can also be equipped with up to 32 GB of RAM.

The new Nvidia laptop-grade GPU means that the Helios 300 can more easily run 240 hz refresh rate displays. [Other than that, it's business as usual for the Helios 300, but hopefully Acer has fixed some of the shortcomings identified with the previous model, such as the terrible keyboard and very noisy fan. The gaming laptop will be available in the U.S. in February starting at $1,249.

For those on a tight budget but want plenty of gaming power, Acer's new Nitro 7 comes with up to a GeForce RTX 3080 and AMD's new Ryzen 5000 series CPUs or the latest Intel H series processors.

That means you get a gaming laptop with a powerful 8-core processor, Nvidia's top-of-the-line laptop GPU, up to 32GB of DDR4 RAM, and storage that supports up to 2TB of NVMe SSD capacity. Acer has made the laptop look beautiful on the outside but just refreshed the internals, so don't expect any design changes.

The Nitro 5 is available in 15- and 17-inch panels in QHD resolution with a 165 Hz refresh rate or Full HD resolution with an ultra-fast 360 Hz refresh rate.

The 17-inch model will be available in the US in February, with prices starting at $849. Meanwhile, a 15-inch model will be available at the same time, but at a more affordable price of $749.

Overall, Acer's 2021 gaming laptop lineup appears to be in healthy shape, with a variety of models to satisfy those seeking gaming laptops at various budgets, although the Predator Trion 300 SE appears to be the most attractive machine, I would have liked to see Acer mix up the Nitro and Helios series designs a bit.

We would need to test these machines before making any real judgments. But if you're chasing the latest Nvidia graphics but can't find a place to buy a GeForce RTX 3080, Acer's gaming laptops are worth a closer look.
