Intel announced at Ces2021 the Rocket LakeS processor, the 11th Generation core H for gaming

At CES 2021, Intel took to the online stage to show off its latest processor families.

Its biggest processors are the 11th generation H-series and Rocket Lake-S desktop chips, both of which promise big gains in gaming. Thus, Intel is looking to move forward and develop the Intel Evo platform and Tiger Lake 11th generation chips starting in 2020, and it is good to see Intel offering a strong lineup.

Intel's biggest boast may be in its new gaming laptop processors, the 11th generation Intel Core H series, which will be available in over 40 designs in the first half of 2021. According to Intel, this series will achieve speeds of up to 5 GHz, making it the fastest performing single-threaded notebook.

The presentation also boasts this speed in Turbo mode on the Special Edition Core i7 processor, which has a Z-height of 16mm for thinner laptops. Intel also promises great battery life on the 14- to 15-inch models.

Intel rates the H-Series chips as "smooth" for 4K gaming and lists eight popular titles with that claim: Destiny 2: Beyond LIght, Hitman III, League of Legends, Valorant, Grid, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Troy: A Total War Saga, and Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord. The company also claims speeds in excess of 70 fps at 1080p "on most popular games. [These chips will be found in laptops from all major manufacturers, including Dell, HP, Lenovo, Acer, Asus, MSI, and Vaio.

Intel also previewed its next desktop processor, the Rocket Lake-S 11th generation chip. Intel is making a strong push for gaming performance, with up to a 50% increase in integrated graphics performance and up to a 19% increase in instructions per cycle. It also has enhanced Intel UHD graphics with AV1 decoding support, and Intel Quick Sync Video is always on.

The star of this section is the 11th generation Core i9-11900K, coming in Q1 2021. This octa-core processor has 16 threads and is rated up to 5.3/4.8 GHz (single/all-core turbo frequency, with Intel Thermal Velocity Boost).

Since everyone is comparing Intel and AMD, Intel compared the 11900K chip to the AMD Ryzen 9 5900X in a series of games running from High to Ultra at 1080p. Intel's numbers show that in Assassin's Creed the 11900K chip outperformed the 5900X by as low as 2%: 2% in Valhalla (Very High at 1080p) and up to 8% in Total War: Three Kingdoms (DX11, High at 1080p). However, most of the performance differences were between 3% and 5%, including 4% on Cyberpunk 2077 (1080p/High).

Intel has also enhanced its overclocking capabilities, adding four Gen 4 PCIe lanes.

Intel also announced a new family of Pentium Silver and Celeron processors designed on Intel's 10nm architecture. These chips are rated to deliver up to 35% "better overall application performance" and up to 78% better gaming performance compared to the previous generation.

These chips will also help Chromebooks by even greater gains, as Intel notes that "overall Chromebook performance will improve by up to 144%. In addition, they expect to see 78% faster speeds when creating STEM projects and "162% faster web application performance." The demo presentation showed how the new Pentium chip will compete with MediaTek's CPUs.

It included a claim that "the battery will last all day without recharging."

Security-minded users and IT buyers know they need Intel vPro to protect their business data. And the 11th generation Tiger Lake processors will now include a new family of vPro-enabled chips.

These processors represent a significant advance over the 10th generation version. In a slide comparing the new Intel Core vPro i7-1185G7 to the 10th generation Intel Core vPro i7-10610U, Intel boasts that overall application performance is 19% better, web browsing is 21% faster, Office 365 ( now called Microsoft 365) performance is 17% faster, video editing is 130% faster, and boasts a whopping 800% improvement in AI performance.

Intel also announced a comparison between the vPro i7-1185G7 CPU and the AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 4750U: 23% faster performance in Office, 80% faster video editing, and 138% better overall application performance.

Intel's 10nm SuperFin technology, Iris Xe graphics, and Wi-Fi 6 are also included.
