Lenovo laptops get more Alexa in show mode

At CES 2021, Lenovo will unveil Show Mode for notebooks, making its PCs more connected to the smart home than ever before.

This will take Show Mode out of the tablet world and make it more ubiquitous. In the coming years, other laptop makers will follow suit with Alexa integration. And of course, your voice alone can do all these tricks.

To make sure your voice is heard properly, Lenovo will combine Show mode with PCs equipped with microphones that use far-field technology. This will first include Yoga and IdeaPad laptops, which will be available in Q2 2021.

As for what it can do, Show Mode has many standard options. It can control smart home devices with commands and is much less stationary than a smart speaker, so it should be great to have on a laptop.

Of course, when used passively, you can set reminders, play music from Amazon Music, turn on the local radio, ask questions about the weather, and check calendar and news updates at a glance.

This is not the first integration of Alexa on PCs, but it could be one of the smoother, more natural paths to bringing the assistant to Windows 10. Meanwhile, at Apple, MacBooks are still distancing themselves from Siri.
