Samsung Galaxy S21 Will Kill microSD Card - but charger Has hope

We know a lot about the Galaxy S21, which is widely believed to debut later this month. Recently, however, there seems to be more and more information about what Samsung's next flagship will not be equipped with.

Last week, there were reports confirming rumors that the Galaxy S21 will ship without a charger in some parts of the world. Now it seems that the Galaxy S21 has other things in common with Apple's phone. Samsung's upcoming phone is said to lack a microSD slot for storage expansion.

That tidbit comes from phone leaker Roland Quandt, who has a solid track record for detailing Samsung phones. Quandt posted a simple message on Twitter: a "memory card reader" is not included in the Galaxy S21 spec sheet. Subsequent tweets suggested that this would be the case for all three Galaxy S21 models, even the expensive Galaxy S21 Ultra.

If the microSD slot is indeed going away, the upcoming phone will likely abandon one of the last bastions of classic smartphone design, along with the headphone jack. Still, it would not be a surprise; in 2015, flagship models from all manufacturers did not have such a slot, nor did some Galaxy Note models like the Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 20 have this feature.

There is also the possibility of some good news from Quandt, noting that some markets could receive a charger in the Galaxy S21 box. That would not include the UK, however, according to other leakers. Nothing is official until Samsung announces the phone.

And that could happen very soon. Rumors point to a January 14 launch event for the Galaxy S21, with the phone shipping by the end of January. Three models are expected: the standard Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21 Plus, and Galaxy S21 Ultra. Samsung is beginning to have prospective buyers reserve a line to pre-order the "next Galaxy" handset.
