The new year will bring a new Galaxy S model. Anyone who has been following Samsung's cell phone releases would have thought so, but Samsung has practically confirmed that news with a teaser video for the upcoming Galaxy S21 release.

Samsung's 30-second video does not specifically mention the Galaxy S21. However, the video does promise that "a new Galaxy awaits" when the calendar changes from 2020 to 201. That, coincidentally, is the same phrase Samsung is using on its pre-order page for the upcoming Galaxy device.

To remove any doubt that we're talking about a new Galaxy S model here, Samsung's video features outlines of various Galaxy S phones over the years, starting with the first generation. We then see the phone transform into each subsequent model, ending with the Galaxy S20 in 2020 and the promise of new models to come.

According to the Galaxy S21 rumors we have heard so far, the new model is not expected to be a radical departure from the Galaxy S20 lineup. Like those models, the new version is expected to be offered in standard, Plus, and Ultra versions, with the Ultra offering a 6.8-inch screen with a dynamic refresh rate. The S21 Ultra will also feature a 108MP main camera with a telephoto lens and S Pen support. The Galaxy S21 and S21 Plus are expected to offer many of the same features as each other, except that the Plus version will have a larger screen and battery.

The appearance of a video teasing the launch of the Galaxy S21 would seem to suggest that its announcement is very near. Indeed, the most common rumor has it that Samsung will unveil the new phone on January 14, two weeks from today.

The existence of the Galaxy S21, along with many of its features, is now basically confirmed, and there is little we do not know about Samsung's next phone. Still, with the S21's price still up in the air, expect a few more details to emerge over the next few weeks.
