iPhone13 leak reveals killer upgrade we've been waiting for

According to a new leak, the iPhone 13 will feature an LTPO display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and Apple's next smartphone will have a display that will challenge Samsung's Galaxy S21.

For a long time, the iPhone 12 was rumored to have a high refresh rate display, but Apple decided to stick with a 60Hz screen. However, longtime Apple leaker John Prosser claims that the iPhone 13 will finally get a refresh rate upgrade and new screen technology.

The LTPO display allows the refresh rate to be adjusted on the fly, scaling from 120Hz to 1Hz when a higher refresh rate is not needed to preserve battery life, while the Apple Watch 6 uses LTPO technology, it has not yet been adopted for the iPhone or iPad.

The iPad Pro has a refresh rate of 120 Hz and can scale to match the display content, but this requires extra hardware.

However, LTPO panels do not require extra hardware and save space. This means that an iPhone 13 with such a screen can benefit from the higher refresh rate and improved battery life that LTPO technology can provide, while remaining thin and light.

Apple was expected to include an LTPO display in the iPhone 12. However, these rumors may have been triggered by Cupertino's efforts to prepare suppliers to provide LTPO panels for the 2021 iPhone.

The only real question is whether all iPhone 13 models will feature LTPO; according to a leak from The Elec. only two models are expected to feature LTPO displays, possibly the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max .

The reason for this may be that Apple plans to keep the LTPO panel on premium devices to keep the price of the standard iPhone 13 and potentially the iPhone 13 mini down. It may also be difficult for Apple to obtain the right quantity of LTPO panels to cover the entire iPhone 13 series because the coronavirus outbreak is not yet in full swing.

Based on previous rumors, the iPhone 13 is expected to have an upgraded camera, improved specs, and possibly a portless design. And Apple is expected to return the iPhone 13 to its normal September smartphone launch schedule. But we'll have to wait a while for that to come, so if you need a smartphone now, check out our best phones list.
