HBO Max is coming to Roku after a 7-month standoff

HBO Max is finally coming to Roku devices, so you won't have to hunt around for a place to watch the new movie "Wonder Woman 1984" in theaters next week Roku and Warner Bros. reached an agreement.

You won't have to wait long to access HBO Max on Roku. The streaming service will be available tomorrow (December 17).

As noted in our review of HBO Max, compatibility with Roku has been one of the major features missing from HBO Max since the streaming service debuted earlier this year. This absence became especially noticeable in November, when Warner Bros. and Amazon agreed to bring HBO Max to Amazon Fire TV.

We rank the Roku Streaming Stick Plus as the best streaming device, but the absence of HBO Max was a glaring omission and a cautionary tale.

The two parties were reportedly bargaining over subscription fees, but that doesn't matter to home viewers who just want to watch movies with friends and take advantage of Warner's new strategy of simultaneous movie theaters and HBO Max.

If you use Roku and already subscribe to HBO, your existing app will automatically update to HBO Max; Variety reports that, like Amazon and Apple, Roku will no longer offer HBO as a subscription channel, HBO Max will take its place.

HBO Max will cost $14.99 per month and offer HD streaming to up to three devices at the same time; a 7-day free trial will allow users to try the service; and a $15.99 monthly subscription fee will cover the cost of the service.
