Samsung Galaxy Note 21 is not dead after all — here's the reason

The future of Samsung's Galaxy Note has been in doubt recently, with rumors that S-Pen will be included in other models and that Samsung is preparing the Galaxy Z Fold 3 as its next flagship "phablet."

However, rumors of the Galaxy Note's demise seem to have been greatly exaggerated. This is because a Samsung official has admitted that a Galaxy Note device will appear in 2021.

The Samsung official revealed this information to Yonhap News, but chose to remain anonymous. Details are scarce, but the source confirmed that Samsung is ready to release a new Galaxy Note device in 2021.

This news contradicts earlier reports that Samsung will discontinue the line and instead add S Pen functionality to the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold 3. Samsung was also said to be shifting focus and focusing on the Galaxy Z Fold series as the "successor" to the Galaxy Note

. A blog post by TM Roh, Samsung's mobile division chief, also seemed to confirm the demise of the Galaxy Note, noting that the Note's popular features would be included in other devices; since the S Pen is the only major exclusive feature that the Galaxy Note series has, the S Pen's popularity S-pen is the only major exclusive feature of the Galaxy Note series, and it seemed to confirm that the S-pen would become popular. However, an official speaking to YonHap News stated that "President Roh's message does not mean that the Galaxy Note series will be discontinued."

The source did not say anything about the Galaxy Note's future beyond 2021, but we wonder what future the Galaxy Note might actually have. Originally, the Note was the "big phone" in Samsung's annual lineup, but in recent years the Galaxy S series has grown and both the Plus and Ultra models compete as the best big phone you can buy The Note series also has similar specs and cameras as the Galaxy S series Note series also offers similar specs and cameras as the Galaxy S series.

In that light, it makes little sense for Samsung to continue the Galaxy Note series indefinitely. It is possible that Samsung is planning a last gasp for the Galaxy Note series, or maybe they have plans to remake this series into something new.

On the other hand, the Galaxy S21 series is scheduled to launch on January 14, and we will see if the S Pen really makes the jump.
