Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 2 just leaked — and there is a big surprise

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 will be one of the largest phones Samsung will release next year. And new rumors suggest that it will be twice as large at launch.

ETNews reports from South Korea that Samsung is developing four foldable models for 2021, all of which will be available later this year. These are named Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 2 by ETNews, and both will reportedly come in two models.

There is precedent for this. Samsung is producing two Z Fold models for different markets. The Galaxy Z Fold 2 is available in the U.S. and the U.K. Samsung also produces the China-only W21, a customized version of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 with an additional SIM card slot and its own color scheme. However, according to ETNews, these new models will be available both in China and worldwide, so hopefully we will have two models to try out the new Z Fold 3 in person.

A logical guess is that the two models could be a standard and a "Lite" or "FE" version of the Z Fold 3. However, ETNews does not specify the names or features of the two Z Fold models.

The article refers to a "high-end and general model" of the Galaxy Z Flip 2, which would have different performance and features. This sounds like a standard and FE duo, as we have been hearing for some time about Samsung's plans to offer an inexpensive folderble. However, it is possible that Samsung will offer a higher-spec "Ultra" edition instead, like the Galaxy S20 Ultra, Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, and the expected Galaxy S21 Ultra.

According to reports, production of these phones is expected to begin in August. If so, the foldable phones would debut in September, when the 5G versions of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 and Galaxy Z Flip first appeared this year. The Galaxy S21 is expected to launch on January 14.

What has not yet been rumored or leaked is information about the successors to the Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra. This may be because, as this report and others suggest, Samsung plans to kill off the Galaxy Note line of phones and integrate its signature stylus support into the Galaxy S21 line, especially the S21 Ultra. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 may also support the S Pen.
