iPhone13 could Fix the worst iPhone12 flaw

When the iPhone 13 arrives next year, a familiar feature may make a comeback. That is Touch ID, a fingerprint-based unlocking feature that disappeared from the flagship models with the introduction of the iPhone X.

Since the iPhone X, Apple has adopted a full-screen display, with a home button and a Touch ID sensor underneath it.

Since the iPhone X, Apple has been using a full-screen display on its iPhones, leaving no room for the home button and the Touch ID sensor that used to be underneath it. But now one prominent analyst believes the sensor will return in at least one of Apple's 2021 phones.

It is analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who in a research note published on MacRumors predicts that Apple is working hard on an iPhone with integrated Touch ID that could be released in 2021. However, this would likely not be a premium model, and would not be one of Apple's flagship models.

Kuo's report also suggests that the Touch ID sensor will be integrated into the new iPhone's power button. Apple pulled off a similar feat with the fourth-generation iPad Air released in September. It is possible that the phone in question is an upgraded version of the iPhone SE, but it is unclear if a sequel to that model will appear next year.

Kuo also predicts that another iPhone may appear in 2021 as a higher-end model, integrating both Face ID technology and a fingerprint scanner mounted under the display. These features are rumored to come along with even better things, such as a new A15 Bionic chip, a ProMotion display with 120Hz support, and, as always, a better camera.

MacRumors adds that if the new iPhone 13 brings back Touch ID, it will also need a different kind of display to support it.

Of course, Apple has yet to comment on any of these rumors, but a recent survey sent to Apple customers included a question about TouchID. And there is still quite a long way to go before we hear anything about the iPhone 13, which is expected to debut next fall. But if Touch ID does make a comeback, it will surely make some users happy.
