5 Biggest Marvel Disney Plus Announcements?Loki, She-Hulk, Groot and more

A lot of news about Marvel's Disney Plus was announced at Disney Investors Day on December 10. Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige announced a ton of stuff about upcoming Disney Plus programming, including Loki, She-Hulk, Hawkeye, and Ms. Marvel.

As a bonus, Feige also provided information on upcoming Marvel movies, providing updates on Shang-Chi, the third Ant-Man film, and (another) new Fantastic Four film. He also confirmed that the casting of T'Challa, the main character played by the late Chadwick Boseman in Black Panther 2, will not be changed.

Following are the five major Marvel Disney Plus news items from the event.

Thor's brother finally gets his moment in the spotlight. The Loki TV show has been in production for months, and now fans of the God of Mischief can mark their calendars. At least one full month. Loki will appear on Disney Plus in May.

In addition, Disney Plus premiered what Feige described as a "crime thriller." The trailer has some great scenes between Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston, and Owen Wilson, who plays a TVA agent/bureaucrat of sorts.

In the comics, the Time Variation Authority is a multidimensional organization that manages various timelines. The last time we saw Loki in The Avengers: Endgame, he had stolen the Tesseract and presumably initiated time travel; TVA wants to talk about his shenanigans, and the last time we saw Loki was in The Avengers: Endgame, he had stolen the Tesseract and presumably initiated time travel.

One of our favorite chameleon-like actresses turns green. Tatiana Maslany is set to star as the She-Hulk in the Disney Plus series.

Not surprisingly, Mark Ruffalo will appear as Bruce Banner/Hulk. More interesting, however, is the casting news that Tim Roth will reprise his role as the villainous Abomination from the 2008 film The Incredible Hulk (with Edward Norton). Marvel really brings us back.

And they may not be the only familiar faces to cross paths with the She-Hulk. Maslany plays Jennifer Walters, a lawyer who takes on superhero cases. As Feige said during the event, "You never know who from the MCU will appear in each episode."

Disney Plus will release James Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy" holiday special in 2022; it will be filmed alongside "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3," scheduled for 2023.

In addition, the streaming service is producing "I Am Groot," a series of short films about everyone's favorite tree.

The Marvel Disney Plus event also confirmed the casting of Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop in the upcoming "Hawkeye" series. She will appear alongside Jeremy Renner, who reprises his role as Clint Barton.

The show also got a release date of "late fall 2021."

In all seriousness, Marvel appears to be producing dozens of shows for Disney Plus. In addition to the previously announced "Ms. Marvel" and "Moon Night," Feige announced several series in development:

- Ironheart - featuring Riri Williams, a black girl genius who invented the most advanced suit armor since Iron Man.

- Secret Invasion, a series about Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), a Skrull shapeshifter who first met in the film Captain Marvel

- Armor Wars, The story of Don Cheadle's return as Colonel James "Rhodey" Rhodes and the realization of Tony Stark's worst fears.

In addition to the Marvel Disney Plus announcement, Feige also revealed news about upcoming Marvel films:

- "Black Panther 2": following the tragic death of star Chadwick Boseman, T'Challa will not be recast. Feige, however, did not reveal what the film will do with the main character. A sequel is scheduled for July 2022.

- Ant-Man 3: The title is set. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will see the return of director Peyton Reed and feature Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, and Michelle Pfeiffer. Also appearing will be Jonathan Majors as the villain Kang the Conqueror.

- "Spider-Man 3": Marvel has confirmed that Benedict Cumberbatch will appear in an unnamed third film with Tom Holland. In addition, it is associated with both "Wander Vision" and "Doctor Strange: The Madness Multiverse."

- Fantastic Four: Yes, Marvel is at this again. Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home director Jon Watts will helm.
