5 Biggest Star Wars Disney Plus Announcements - Ahsoka, Darth Vader and More

There is so much Star Wars Disney Plus news (and Star Wars movie news) today that we could swamp the Besker staff. At yesterday's (December 10) Disney Investors Day event, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy shared some movie and show tidbits about the future of Star Wars.

No new trilogy or saga was announced, but there is so much for Star Wars fans to anticipate that it is hard to keep track of it all. So I've compiled a list of all the details you need to know at this big event.

One of the most exciting moments for me online was when Disney announced that Rosario Dawson would be starring in "Star Wars: Ahsoka."

The Disney Plus Original will be a "limited series" executive produced by Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau of The Mandalorian. In addition, "The Mandalorian" Season 2 will finally intertwine with the lore of the "Star Wars" universe and will be written by Filoni, who has received rave reviews from fans.

When will Ahsoka's show come out? There are signs that something will be released on Christmas Day, 2021, like the next Star Wars Disney Plus film we will discuss. Kennedy stated only that this is when the "next chapter" in the story will emerge.

Ahsoka's show will work in conjunction with another Disney Plus original, Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic, which will spin out of The Mandalorian. Both shows end with a "climactic story event."

This is going to be quite controversial. The "Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi" show not only allows us to see more of Ewan McGregor as the Jedi Master.

The show will feature Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader, and while some longtime Star Wars fans are not happy with the casting, fans of the prequel films (they're real, trust me) were overjoyed at the news.

Obi-Wan's show, set 10 years after the dramatic conclusion of Revenge of the Sith and a Disney Plus Original, will see Kenobi lose his greatest apprentice and recover from Vader's own early years.

In a press release, Christiansen said, "It will be interesting to see what a great director like Deborah Chow has in store for us. I'm excited to be working with Ewan again. It feels good to be back."

"It's great to be back.

Disney Plus has not yet set a release date for Obi-Wan Kenobi; the six-episode limited series is scheduled to begin shooting in spring 2021.

Kennedy revealed that the series began production in London in late November; he also obtained a promotional sizzle reel for "Star Wars: Andor," which will air on Disney Plus in 2022.

Disney credits director Tony Gilroy as the "creator" of Andor, which will consist of 12 episodes. Diego Luna will reprise his role as Cassian Andor from "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" and will be joined by the voice of Alan Tudyk, who will return as K-2SO.

The rest of the cast is top-notch, including Stellan Skarsgard, Fiona Shaw, and Genevieve O'Reilly as Mon Mothma.

R2-D2 and C-3PO will return to the screen in the new Disney Plus series, A Droid Story. According to the presentation, they will lead the "new heroes."

This appears to be animated, but one wonders if it will stand out in any special way, as Lucasfilm notes that "the intersection of animation and visual effects offers new opportunities to explore."

The Bad Batch was an experimental clone group that first appeared in The Clone Wars. Now that that series is over, they are getting a lot of attention for themselves.

According to Lucasfilm, the clones "each have special skills that make them highly effective soldiers and formidable crew members."

Disconcertingly, no release date has been announced.

The next Star Wars film is Rogue Squadron, and it has a director: the director is Patty Jenkins (director of the two recent Wonder Woman films). Rogue Squadron" will focus on a new aspiring starfighter pilot, and Jenkins expressed his excitement in this video posted online.

"Rogue Squadron" is scheduled to be released on Christmas Day, 2023.

According to Kennedy, Taika Waititi's untitled "Star Wars" project is currently in development. Rumors and reports that the writer/director is working on a new Star Wars film have been heard for some time. The film will first be released in theaters and will eventually be released on Disney Plus.

Kennedy described Waititi's "approach to Star Wars" as "fresh, unexpected, and . . unique."
