Metal Gear Solid Movie release date, cast and everything else we know

The "Metal Gear Solid" movies have been something of a cinematic vaporware, but Snake is showing signs of life as he emerges from another decade of silence. That's because Oscar Isaac is reportedly playing Solid Snake.

Yes, this is Snake, the actor who will one day play Otacon to MGS fans! will shout "Snake!" and give us all hope that one day we can all giggle at the movie version of Hideo Kojima's wild spy series.

When will we see Isaac as Solid Snake? That's a big question mark, as Deadline says "no production start date is known," but the star's involvement should make the film a high priority for Sony Pictures.

This is the first we have heard of the film still being alive since 2012, when former Marvel Entertainment CEO Avi Arad was supposed to produce it.

Let's not open the mystery cardboard box: no matter where you look, you won't find the MGS trailer. Maybe in a few days an edit by a fan will be released on the web, but I don't trust it.

Oscar Isaac, who plays Solid Snake, is the only cast member confirmed for Metal Gear Solid. The film's director, Jordan Vogt-Roberts ("Kong: Skull Island," "Kings of Summer"), tweeted this photo after the announcement went live.

Voogt-Roberts told "We Got This Covered" that nailing the tone was one of the key obstacles in the film's pre-production state, "It's incredibly tricky to adapt because the tone is so specific He said, "It's incredibly tricky to adapt. Kojima's tone is very wonderful. The tone of the film can be very serious and very intense one moment and very goofy and very out-there the next. There is no property on earth that I would rather protect than the property that is Metal Gear Solid."

Jay Bass (The Girl in the Spider's Web Castle) will write the screenplay.
