Samsung Galaxy S21 may get massive price cuts — here's why

The rumor of Samsung's new Galaxy S21 may be the best news yet to be had about the next big Samsung phone. It has nothing to do with hardware or software, but rather a significant drop in the price of the phone.

The source of the information is a bit vague, a user named Landsk on the Naver blog yeux1122 (via SamMobile). They claim that the Galaxy S21 will be priced between $850 and $899, the Galaxy S21 Plus between $1050 and $1099, and the Galaxy S21 Ultra between $1250 and $1299, although prices have not been confirmed.

Incidentally, the starting prices of the S20 series in US dollars were $999 for the Galaxy S20, $1,199 for the Galaxy S20 Plus, and $1,399 for the Galaxy S20 Ultra. Thus, the leaked figures indicate that each S21 model will be priced between $100 and $150 less than the previous model.

This could be due to lower component costs, allowing Samsung to sell phones at lower prices while still making the same profit per handset. Samsung may also have decided to lower the price in the hopes that the iPhone 12 and OnePlus 8 Pro will take sales away from Apple and OnePlus, which are major competitors for Samsung's flagship handsets.

Apple in particular seems to be taking notice: with the iPhone 12 Pro starting at $999, Samsung no longer has the advantage of offering more hardware at a lower price with the S20 series. early January instead of February for the S20 and March for the Galaxy S10. Combined with a launch date of January 2021, Samsung seems to be aiming for sales from users who are considering upgrading their flagships in 2021.

The S21 Ultra's rumored price matches the current Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra price ($1,299). We have seen many claims that the Galaxy Note line will not get an upgrade this year and may end altogether so that Samsung can focus more on foldables like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2.

Sharing the price point is not strong evidence of that, but it does at least mean that those already using Samsung's top stylus-equipped phones will not be horrified at the cost of the Galaxy S21 if they decide to upgrade.

Another upgrade we expect to see in January is a new chipset, possibly Qualcomm's newly revealed Snapdragon 888, as well as Samsung's Exynos 2100 in certain markets. but according to leaks so far, The 6.2-inch S21 and 6.7-inch S21 Plus use a lower FHD resolution than the QHD S20 and S20 Plus.

The S21 Ultra maintains the QHD resolution, but instead shrinks slightly from the S20 Ultra, going from 6.9" to 6.8" in width. The Ultra models will also feature 3x and 10x telephoto cameras, respectively, which will likely further expand photography possibilities.

With Christmas fast approaching and January just around the corner, we won't have to wait too long to find out if these rumors will come true.
