Microsoft Surface Pro8 and Surface Laptop 4 leaked - and the MacBook Air M1 is laughing

Images of the new Sufrace Pro 8 tablet and Surface Laptop 4 have leaked, supposedly submitted to regulatory authorities.

The leak came from Twtter user @cozyplanes in Seoul, South Korea. This 17-year-old user prides himself on finding these types of submissions and reporting on manufacturing issues and delays at major tech companies.

According to Windows Central, the next Surface Pro 8 and Surface Laptop 4 will be available in mid-January. Surface devices typically tend to be released in October, but the delay may be related to a coronavirus or internal hardware changes.

The new Surface Pro 8 and Surface Laptop 4 will feature Intel's 11th generation processors and the new Iris Xe Graphics, a significant improvement over the company's previous generation integrated GPU.

However, the MacBook Air M1 already beats laptops with 11th generation Intel chips, including the new Dell XPS 13 and Asus ZenBook 3. The ugly truth can be seen in our benchmark review of the MacBook M1.

The new MacBook Air also beats all of its closest Windows competitors in battery life, with a whopping 14 hours and 41 minutes in our web surfing battery test; the Surface Pro 7 was 7 hours and 52 minutes, while the 11th 11th generation chips should be a bit more efficient.

According to a source close to Windows Central's Zac Bowden, AMD options will again be available on the 8, but it is unclear which chips specifically. There will also be an LTE option available.

Microsoft has had a healthy relationship with AMD over the past few years. Not only did Microsoft co-develop a special Ryzen chip for the 15-inch Surface Laptop 3, but it has also worked closely with the company on the Xbox Series X. We expect Microsoft to do even better with the Surface Laptop 4 as well as the Surface Pro 8.
