The M1 chip completely shatters the record set by the Intel-powered MacBook, while at the same time extending battery life. And Apple is not stopping there. We are already hearing rumors of a new chip, the M1X, which could be released next year.

The M1 has already been a huge success for Apple: according to our Apple Silicon benchmarks on the M1 chip, Apple's processor beats Intel's latest chips in Geekbench, video transcoding, and Photoshop.

Therefore, Apple's M1 chip is a good candidate for the M2 chip.

So the prospect of an even more powerful chip for the 16-inch MacBook Pro 2021 is quite exciting.

According to @LeaksApplePro, who has a track record in this sort of thing, the M1X is likely to appear in the 16-inch MacBook Pro within the next year, and given that the 16-inch MacBook Pro is currently the flagship of the MacBook lineup, it seems likely that Apple will use it to introduce a better chipset. it makes sense for Apple to use it to launch a better chipset, especially since the 13-inch MacBook Pro is currently the flagship of the MacBook lineup. Especially if it really is this much faster than the M1 chip in the 13-inch MacBook Pro.

And if the details about the number of cores are true, this would really be one heck of a chip. For reference, the current M1 chip only incorporates eight cores, four high-performance cores and four efficient cores. If Apple can keep the power requirements at a manageable level, eight high-performance cores would be a sight to behold.

The only question is whether the name M1X will stick and when it will appear. After all, if it really does have twice as many performance cores, Apple may want to choose a name that reflects the power increase. As for when it will be released, it could be anytime between now and early next year. Especially if there is only a press release and no major launch event.
