iPhone13 Leak reveals bad news for Samsung Galaxy S21

While many people are getting the iPhone 12, the focus of the rumor mill has shifted to the iPhone 13. And it appears that Apple is casting a big shadow over other phones scheduled to arrive in 2021.

It is already believed that next year's iPhone will add a 120 Hz refresh rate display, the same feature Samsung added to this year's Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20. However, new rumors suggest that the iPhone 13 could add this fast refresh dynamic display and at the same time undercut the iPhone 12's price.

This new rumor comes from leaker Jon Prosser in a new episode of Front Page Tech, and it appears that Chinese manufacturer BOE continues to fail to meet Apple's strict expectations of providing displays that meet the standards Apple requires. Prosser noted that if BOE is unable to produce LTPO OLED displays as Apple requires, Samsung and LG Display will take over, as happened with the iPhone 13's display in the iPhone 12's OLED panel.

Samsung and LG Display would certainly be able to provide the delicious 120Hz that buyers crave, but it would mean that Apple might have to pay more for manufacturing than it pays BOE. Prosser, however, suggested that this crisis could be avoided. The manufacturer, BOE, could undergo quality testing again to regain its status as a supplier of the iPhone 13. If it can meet Apple's requirements and quality expectations, the iPhone 13 could become cheaper overall because at that point it would no longer have to rely on Samsung and LG Display.

If BOE can produce 120Hz LTPO OLED screens for Apple, buyers will be happy. It would also put pressure on Samsung, which is releasing its first large flagship phone this year, the Galaxy S21, early. In fact, Samsung will reportedly take advantage of the delayed debut of the iPhone 12 to move up the launch of the S21.

Since the iPhone 13 is in the early stages of its development cycle, it will be some time before we know if the new iPhone will have a faster refresh display or how that might affect pricing. But these are just two more things to speculate about the iPhone 13, which is expected to come in the same four model sizes as the iPhone 12.
