Justice League Snyder Cut Release Date, Trailer, Cast, Darkseid and More

The "Justice League" Snyder Cut is actually going public. Yes, the Snyder Cut, the kind of nerd lore that has been talked about for years and spawned the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut hashtag, is really happening.

Many have scoffed at the biggest conspiracy theory in comic book movie history, but we now know it's coming true with HBO Max. Details are as follows.

Of course, as you read the following, you will begin to wonder if an entirely different cut of a film actually exists. But it does exist, and it will be released shortly. Usually studios don't shoot scenes they don't need, but we don't know if Warner Bros. changed their mind at the last minute.

So here's everything you need to know about the Snyder cut of "Justice League."

On May 20, during a zoom call with fans after Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel" viewing party, Snyder said it was not up to him to release the Snyder Cut. Then, after a nudge from Henry Cavill, Snyder released the following image.

Yes, the Snyder cut of Justice League is real and will be released on HBO Max in 2021.

Interestingly, the Snyder Cut may not be what fans are expecting; the Hollywood Reporter reports, "Whether it will be released as a nearly four-hour director's cut or split into six "chapters" has yet to be determined, but Snyder and his wife are currently in the process of reassembling much of the original post-production crew, scoring, cutting, adding new visual effects and finishing up old visual effects.

Snyder introduced the potential format change at a presentation in early February, where he screened his material to executives from Warner Bros, HBO Max, and DC.

After being removed due to the use of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," Snyder Cut's latest trailer is back. The emotional black-and-white reel features Superman and Darkseid.

The earliest "Justice League" Snyder Cut teaser trailer focuses on Wonder Woman staring at a mural as Lex Luthor rants off camera. Then comes the big baddie everyone has been waiting for:

It's still too early for a full trailer. We will update this page as soon as the full Snyder Cut is revealed. If you want to see more footage, HBO Max is using it to promote "Snyder Cut" to fans, with footage from the watch party where Zack Snyder revealed that "Justice League" Snyder Cut will be released on HBO Max. Here's the teaser trailer, which seems to confirm that the big bad dark side will be in Snyder Cut, as tweeted by Zack Snyder on May 27, 2020. Actor Ray Porter tweeted that he is playing the villain in Snyder Cut. Apparently, his time on screen was cut from the film.

The 2017 film "Justice League" was originally only planned to be directed by Zack Snyder ("Batman vs. Superman," "300"). Then, after a family tragedy, Warner Bros. announced that Snyder would be stepping down. Joss Whedon ("The Avengers," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer") put the finishing touches on the film, and the resulting movie was like a mash-up. You could almost tell which scenes had a whiff of Whedon and which had Snyder's signature (dark) touch.

Rumors then swirled that there would be another Justice League; in December 2017, ScreenRant reported news of a test screening of the "much darker" film. This version soon became known as "The Snyder Cut." Online, fans who wanted a truly gritty Justice League film demanded that Warner Bros. release the Snyder Cut. Their cries traveled across social media, including a petition on Change.org that garnered 179,261 signatures before being locked.

And it felt like a lot of speculation and rumors, at least until March 2019 when Snyder confirmed the existence of Snyder Cut and talked about #ReleaseTheSnyderCut again:

In the video above, Snyder (at a fundraiser) fans by saying, "All I can say is that ...... There are certainly cuts. There are cuts. There are a lot of them. So it's not like it's up to them [Warner Bros.]." This gave fans of the film all the reason they needed to demand the release of the cut; YouTuber Film Junkee told us that director Snyder wrote the number "214" on the poster for the event, and that he used this number to indicate that the Snyder cut is 214 minutes long He told us that he used it. This is 94 minutes longer than the two-hour "Justice League."

In the aforementioned Hollywood Reporter report, Snyder reportedly said, "You probably saw a quarter of what I did."

As noted above, the gang is all there, and Ray Porter will (finally) appear as Darkseid.

HBO Max is the perfect home for Snyder Kat, who will appear next year. At launch, HBO Max has Joker (2019), but will that be enough? Season 2 of Doom Patrol is coming, but not until June 25.

However, the Snyder cut will likely induce more eyeballs to HBO Max.
