Xbox Game Pass members can get free Disney Plus — but there's a catch

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members get Disney Plus free. This is because this is what deals are all about.

After teasing the possibility of Baby Yoda coming to Xbox Game Pass yesterday, the Xbox Game Pass Twitter account announced that Disney Plus has been added to the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate benefits. Specifically, subscribers will receive a free 30-day trial of Disney Plus, available starting today. But about that catch.

According to The Verge, this is only available to those who have never subscribed to Disney Plus. Annoying, isn't it?

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate costs $14.99 per month, much more than Disney Plus's $6.99 per month. But for those who have yet to try Disney Plus, now is a great time to do so. Microsoft's game subscription service offers access to more than 100 games that can be played on Xbox, PC, and Android.

If Disney Plus retirees want to find a workaround, it may work if the email address and payment information on their Xbox Game Pass account is different from their previous Disney Plus account. We have not tried that.

And as frustrating as that caveat is, this is one of the only ways to get a free trial of Disney Plus, since the streaming service ended the Disney Plus free trial earlier this year. Gamers who purchase Fortnite's in-game currency, V-Bucks, can also get a free month or two of Disney Plus.

The promotion is available from now until March 2, 2021, and seems to capture the renewed interest in "The Mandalorian" Season 2, which debuted in late October.
