The foldable phone is so 2020 - the stunning roll potential of LG has Been revealed

Tired of Folding Cell Phones? If you want to be on the cutting edge of smartphone innovation, rollable displays will be here in 2021 and will stand out from the crowd.

According to a report by LetsGoDigital, at least LG seems to be heading in that direction. According to the Dutch site, LG is working on something called Project B, which is the code name for a smartphone with a rollable display that has been in development for some time.

We've heard about LG's rollable smartphone display plans before, but it looks like production may finally be moving forward; LG has reportedly been granted a patent for a device with a rollable display like the one described in Project B

. However, a closer look reveals that this smartphone has a special frame. It allows the phone to expand and slide on both sides until it reaches a triple-wide screen.

This architecture allows LG's Project B phone to avoid the hinges and folds found in folding phones currently on the market, such as Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 2 and Motorola's Razr 5G. If that happens, LG's prototype would immediately put it on the map ahead of its competitors.

The rollable phone's display could be used in landscape orientation to enhance the viewing experience of TV shows and movies, or it could be flexible with the phone's metal casing to complete additional tasks such as split-screen gaming or simple sliding.

LG has not revealed an official release date or even a name for the Project B phone, but as Neowin reports, the phone could be available around March 2021. So far, we have only seen an illustration of the patent and nothing on the actual use of this design.

Still, as Let's Go Digital explains, this would be a bold challenge to the foldable phone trend that could be more valuable and sophisticated than the foldable phones currently on the market. [If LG can increase the screen area without folds or hinges, and can do so reliably for the foreseeable future without breaking down or wearing out like other phones, then this phone maker may be on to something. This manufacturer had already introduced the LG Wing and its rotating screen to the world, and the design principles were nearly identical.

In the future, hinges and folds to enlarge smartphone screens may disappear, and LG may be at the forefront of that change.
