iPhone12 just blew the fastest Android phone

The rivalry between Samsung and Apple is fierce, and now that the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro have been announced, it is even more intense.

Apple has spent a lot of time developing its A14 Bionic chip, but how well does it perform? Judging from one new test, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is way behind.

The folks at PhoneBuff pitted the iPhone 12 Pro against Samsung's Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. The goal was to see how the iPhone 12's A14 Bionic and 6GB of RAM would rate against the Note 20 Ultra's Snapdragon 865 Plus and 12GB of RAM. And the iPhone 12 Pro came out on top.

As you can see in the video, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra takes the lead early on, but falls behind thanks to the iPhone 12 Pro meeting the video rendering challenge faster than any phone PhoneBuff has ever seen. The Note 20 Ultra has since regained some ground, but the iPhone has been dominant in the mobile gaming section and has not been able to close Samsung's lead.

The first "lap" of opening an app took the iPhone 1 minute 41 seconds, while the Samsung took 1 minute 55 seconds. The second lap, which was intended to test the phone's ability to run in the background, did not fair much better for Samsung: 46 seconds for the Note 20 Ultra compared to 42 seconds for the iPhone 12 Pro.

In other words, in total, the iPhone 12 Pro was able to beat the champ with a time of 2 minutes and 24 seconds. This is 17 seconds faster than the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra's 2 minutes 42 seconds.

PhoneBuff attributed the win to the fact that the iPhone 12 series has more RAM than the iPhone 11, 6GB instead of the previous 4GB. This upgrade allows the iPhone to keep more apps and processes running in the background, more effectively maintaining its lead over the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.

Of course, this will come as no surprise to those paying attention to the iPhone 12 benchmarks, as the A14 Bionic has proven to be more powerful than any chip offered by Android phones. Apple was not kidding when it said that the A14 is a 50% leap forward in graphics and performance compared to the A13 Bionic.

In other words, if you are on the fence about which phone to buy, remember that the iPhone 12 is the faster phone. However, it remains to be seen how it will perform against the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S21.
