A second stimulus package, a second $1,200 payment to eligible Americans, may be included in the upcoming coronavirus relief package. It is still unclear when that package will finally be passed.

Weeks of negotiations have been filled with mixed messaging and stalemate, offering little hope to those waiting for additional stimulus. However, less than a week before the presidential election, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is still pushing for an agreement.

According to The Hill, Speaker Pelosi sent a letter to the White House on Thursday, October 29, asking the top stimulus negotiators to continue talks.

"Your response is essential to continuing our negotiations," Pelosi wrote to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.

Pelosi does not seem hesitant to support a bipartisan stimulus bill on behalf of her campaign. She has urged Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) to do the same.

"The President's words that 'once the election is over, we'll have a stimulus package like we've never seen before' will only make sense if we can get Mitch McConnell [Senate Majority Leader] to take his hand off the pause button and get the Senate Republican chairman to reach an agreement with Rep. '" writes Pelosi.

McConnell takes his cue from President Trump, who has settled on waiting on a stimulus package until after the election. Previously, the president had asked for a bailout bill by November 3.

Corroborating his current stance, President Trump said on Tuesday that "after the election, we will come up with a stimulus package like we've never seen before."

For those in need of relief, however, the good news may be that former Vice President Joe Biden could have a bill in place by February if he wins.

Previously, it was believed that the stimulus bill could be passed in November if President Trump were reelected; with a second term secured, Trump could tout the bill as an early success.

However, if former Vice President Biden is elected, we may not see the stimulus package until February. During the lame duck session, it will be difficult to pass bipartisan legislation. Vice President Pelosi's willingness to agree to another stimulus package early, regardless of the outcome of the election, may be a silver lining for those waiting for relief.
