Windows10 is undergoing a massive redesign — what we Know so far

It's been a while since Windows 10 was released, and it looks pretty much the same now as it did back in 2015. So don't you think it's time for a bit of a refresh? The good news is that it sounds like it's getting closer.

Rumor has it that the Windows 10 desktop interface will have a whole new look, but the bad news is that it won't arrive until late next year.

Sources speaking to Windows Central's Zac Bowden mentioned the codename "Sun Valley," which is said to significantly revamp Windows 10's UI. Apparently, the update will revamp key desktop elements, but since Microsoft is still in a very early stage of development, it is almost certain that plans will change by the time Sun Valley is ready to roll out.

So what can we expect? According to sources, an overhaul of the Start menu and Action Center is planned, and it may be a desktop-only version of the changes made in Windows 10X. Microsoft has already begun work on bringing multi-screen Windows 10X functionality to the desktop.

Other updates are said to come in other minor tweaks, including improvements to the now outdated file explorer, taskbar, and dark mode in legacy areas of the Windows 10 interface.

Things may change, but it's time for Windows 10 to get an overhaul. Of course, we don't want a return of the incredibly unpopular UI changes that shipped with Windows 8, but it's nice to get a fresh coat of paint once in a while.

Unfortunately, we'll have to wait quite a while for the Sun Valley update to be ready. Sources tell us that it is not scheduled until the second half of 2021, so we may have to wait a year before it is reflected on our machines. And as is usual with these things, plans could easily change in the meantime. Stay tuned.
