Apple's AirPods Studio has been delayed by design issues.

Both the AirPods 3 and AirPods Pro 2 earbuds are on track for a 2021 release, but the fate of Apple's debut over-ear headphones is uncertain; Bloomberg reports that problems with the headband have caused this highly anticipated headphone's release has been postponed again.

According to Bloomberg, Apple had scheduled production of the AirPods Studio "a few weeks ago," but sources familiar with the testing felt the headband was too tight. Furthermore, Bloomberg said the rumored features have been "scaled back."

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman first reported that the AirPods Studio would feature interchangeable earpads and headphone pads in April. With this update, Apple insiders said some of the planned interchangeable features will not happen.

Instead of having both interchangeable earpads and headphone pads, the AirPods Studio may only support interchangeable earpads. The touchpads on either side of the headphones are also smaller than originally proposed.

Despite rumors that it will launch alongside the iPhone 12 lineup and the Apple Watch 6, Apple has yet to acknowledge the AirPods Studio. Ahead of both launch events, leaker Jon Prosser said the headphones start at $329 and are nearly ready to ship.

Closer to the iPhone 12 announcement, Prosser said Apple had delayed the AirPods Studio. Now, this Bloomberg report gives a clearer picture of why the premium Bose rival product is coming later than originally expected.
