Chromebooks make great, affordable laptops that can do an amazing amount, even with initially disappointing spec sheets. However, while the Chrome OS is more powerful, it still has many limitations compared to Windows 10.

However, thanks to a partnership between Google and Parallels, you can now work around this limitation by running a virtual version of Windows 10 inside your Chromebook. Enterprise, you can run a full version of Windows, along with Chrome OS and currently supported Android apps.

This turns the Chromebook into a machine that can virtually do a little bit of everything, but there's a catch: the Parallels service is aimed at businesses looking to get more out of their Chromebooks, and there is no consumer version yet. Access to Parallels Desktop for Chromebook Enterprise costs $69.99 per user per year.

Then it would be best to purchase a higher-specification Chromebook, such as a Core i5 processor and 8GB of RAM instead of a low-end Celeron CPU. However, most modern Chromebooks should support Parallels.

A licensed version of Windows 10 is also required to configure a Chromebook to access virtual versions of Microsoft's operating system. In short, this would not be a tool that any Chromebook user could easily install and start using.

However, once it is up and running, one can effectively access a Windows desktop within a window on Chrome OS. While this may sound like the start of a bad software-based joke, it is actually a pretty powerful tool for accessing the wide range of app support and features of a Windows machine on a Chromebook.
