In the film, Adam Sandler plays the titular character, Hubie Dubois, who lives in Salem, Massachusetts, one of the most famous towns in horror films. because he loves Halloween, but more than that, he loves safety. But when the horror strikes, he may be just what the citizens need.

Sandler has brought all of his friends with him, and even people you might not expect. Regulars Kevin James, Rob Schneider, and Tim Meadows co-star, and Colin Quinn makes an appearance, as well as some old faces from his SNL days. Ben Stiller also makes an appearance.

And in case you don't remember, Sandler reunites with "Happy Gilmore" co-star Julie Bowen ("Modern Family") in this film. Bowen plays Violet Valentine, Herbie's love interest, who seems to be the only person in town who doesn't find Herbie annoying.

The trailer for Hubie Halloween shows how strange Salem, Massachusetts is. He is a very nice man, but not a very popular one. He is an all-around goofball, bullied by the community, and appreciated by Violet Valentine (Julie Bowen), but few others. Even the church people bully him.

But that's when things get spooky on Halloween. Harvey's safety-first mentality may prove to be the only thing standing between the people of Salem and their mysterious new neighbor and fugitive. Whether anyone will listen to him, though, who knows?

It's to be expected that a goofy Adam Sandler comedy will be heavily criticized by critics, but there are those who went into this film with lowered expectations and came away unscathed.

On DigitalSpy, Gabriella Geisinger said, "Don't get me wrong, we love slapstick too, but Adam Sandler jumping off bicycle handlebars and overreacting to jump scares is something you can do a lot before it gets boring."

Guy Lodge of Variety noted, "Sandler's mugging is sort of exhaustingly impressive on its own." His recent appearance in Uncut Gems may have earned him critical acclaim for his "authentic" performance, but there is method and skill in such screechy physical showmanship, even when it seems to be his default setting."

But he also describes the film as "so hilarious and indifferently silly that it doesn't raise much ire."

The most favorable review came from Polygon, where Karen Han wrote, "'Hubie Halloween' doesn't have much to offer in the end besides a brief, minimal creepy distraction, but it's more entertaining than Sandler's other Netflix films ('The Do-Over,' Ridiculous 6)," he writes. He has more in common with "Sandy Wexler," his best Netflix film to date.
