The OnePlus 8T will run Android 11 upon launch, and aside from the Google Pixel 5 and other Pixel phones, it will likely be the first device to use Google's new OS to be released this fall. [OnePlus CEO Pete Lau confirmed this detail on the company's user forum; the latest version of Android will be included in the company's newest handset under the name OxygenOS 11, and Lau briefly described its features.

Lau promised OnePlus users the "fastest and smoothest" experience with the new OS, echoing the company's longstanding marketing slogan "fast and smooth." He also noted how the OnePlus 8T's 120Hz display relates to this goal. This new display is an upgrade from the OnePlus 8's 90Hz panel, but remains the same size as the original OnePlus 8 at 6.55 inches.

One interesting feature specifically mentioned in the forum post is a "new layout that brings the touch controls closer to the thumb for easier access." Given the size of modern smartphone displays, this seems like a great addition for users with small hands or mobility difficulties.

Other features mentioned include the addition of an always-on display option, new gesture controls and animations, and other unnamed features. We can also expect new features from the basic Android 11 experience, including new controls for media playback, more granular permission settings for apps, a new ability to take screenshots, and the introduction of native screen recording.

Android 11 will officially debut on September 30 with the first phones along with the Pixel 5. However, OnePlus has traditionally been the first Android phone manufacturer to offer users the latest features, with the exception of Google itself.

As OnePlus revealed in a previous announcement, the OnePlus 8T will be available on October 14. Other features include ultra-fast 65W wired charging and an updated Snapdragon 865 Plus chipset that is more powerful than the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro.
