The PS5 pre-order situation is a complete mess, with major retailers selling out of the console almost immediately and some stores already experiencing delays. To make matters worse, some GameStop shoppers in Europe are waiting until 2021 to jump on the next-generation console.

According to VGC, several GameStop Ireland shoppers have received an email from the retailer stating that they cannot fulfill pre-orders until 2021. The note promised to deliver the new console to customers when it becomes available in "future waves," but did not give a specific date.

This news comes just days after Amazon notified PS5 buyers that they may not receive this product on launch day due to high demand. And in addition to Sony's new console, Amazon just sent a similar warning to those who were able to secure an Xbox Series X.

Pre-orders for the PS5 first opened on September 16, just after Sony revealed the console's price and release date. With little warning, the new console was out of stock almost instantly at major stores including Amazon, Walmart, Target, and GameStop. Although Microsoft had given ample notice of the Xbox Series X pre-order start date of September 22, the actual process of trying to purchase the console was equally chaotic.
