Lenovo ThinkPad X1Nano release date, price, specifications, etc.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano is real. That's right, the leaked 13-inch impossibly light laptop that challenged the Dell XPS 13 earlier this summer and teased its inclusion on our Best Laptops page has now been confirmed to be on its way.

But how on earth did Lenovo manage to make this $1.99 laptop last more than 17 hours? Because the company announced this new 13-inch laptop with the news that pre-orders for the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold are now open.

The ThinkPad X1 Fold is a foldable ThinkPad X1 Fold (which costs a whopping $2,499) and the ThinkBook 15 Gen 2, which features a keyboard deck with fully wireless headphones.

But just how excited should you be: let's take a look at everything you need to know about the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano starts at $1,399. Unlike the ThinkPad X1 Fold, which just opened for pre-orders, Lenovo is not yet selling the Nano. The laptop is expected to be available in Q4 2020. [Weighing 1.99 pounds with a carbon fiber and magnesium alloy casing, the ThinkPad X1 Nano could be ThinkPad's lightest 13-inch laptop ever. And yet, it still looks like a ThinkPad.

The cross-hatch pattern on the lid, the black ThinkPad X1 logo on an elegant black background, the TrackPoint pointing stick/nubbin, and the full backlit keyboard.

In addition, thin, narrow bezels with an 85% screen-to-body ratio enhance the X1 Nano's 2K Dolby Vision display.

In terms of ports, the Thunderbolt 4 USB-C port (one for power and one for accessories) and headphone jack are on the left side, with the power button on the right.

Inside the ThinkPad X1 Nano is a 2K (2160 x 1350 pixels) Dolby Vision display. Dolby Vision is intended to optimize image quality by improving contrast and color, with brighter tones and what Dolby calls "darks and darks."

Panels can be either touchscreen or non-touchscreen.

Both ThinkPad X1 Nano screens support up to 450 nits of brightness (which is quite bright) and 100% of the sRGB color spectrum. They also have a 16:10 aspect ratio, which just barely fits a movie, but has a little more vertical space for when you're not watching Netflix.

Speaking of Netflix, the low-profile X1 Nano offers a quad-speaker setup that supports Dolby Atmos sound for an immersive sound space.

The ThinkPad X1 Nano runs on Intel Tiger Lake 11th generation processors up to Intel Evo certified Core i7. Tiger Lake chips offer up to a 20% increase in CPU performance and the Intel Xe Graphics architecture ( Nano), which is expected to double graphics performance.

As for connectivity, Wi-Fi 6 and 5G/4G capabilities make it as future-proof as any recent product.

Lenovo offers serious security essentials, including a dTPM 2.0 chip to protect sensitive data, a fingerprint reader, ThinkShutter camera cover, and an IR camera to detect human presence. The latter feature can unlock the X1 Nano upon arrival and put it to sleep when leaving.

Lenovo claims up to 17.3 hours of battery life on a single charge, which is shocking for such a light laptop; compare Lenovo's claims (based on durability in MobileMark 2014 testing) with Tom's Guide battery tests. Let's take a look. [But if the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano is this light, we'd like to benchmark this laptop and see how long it lasts in other tests and daily use.

When we hear rumors of laptops that are so thin or light that we reach for our credit cards, we wonder how they achieved this. Did Lenovo triumph with engineering excellence or did they cut corners?

We look forward to testing this product later this year (depending on a yet-to-be-determined release date) to find out.
