The Google Pixel 5 will be announced at Google's September 30 event, but the actual release date may be before Apple's new iPhone 12.

This shipping schedule comes courtesy of Jon Prosser, whose leaks posted on Twitter often prove to be accurate. Prosser claims to have shipping details for both the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G, the latter of which could require a significantly longer wait.

According to Prosser, both of Google's new phones will be available for pre-order on the same day as Google's event, with the Pixel 5 shipping about two weeks later, on October 15.

Apple's iPhone 12 event is rumored to take place on October 13, and the release date could be October 23. Therefore, the Pixel 5 may be introduced to the market before the iPhone 12.

Prosser's tweet contains other information about the Pixel 5, namely that it will be available in Just Black and Subtle Sage. The latter color seems to corroborate the green version of the Pixel 5 that others tweeted earlier this week.

We already know a lot about what to expect from the Pixel 5 thanks to various leaks. It should have a 6-inch screen with a 90 Hz refresh rate and a Snapdragon 765G processor; the Pixel 4a 5G has a 6.2-inch display with the same chipset but a standard 60 Hz screen refresh rate.

There seems to be some bad news on the Pixel 4a 5G front. According to Prosser, the "just black" version of the phone is not expected to ship until November 19. That's a full month and a half after the announcement.

"They pussyfooted around with the 4a," Prosser tweeted.

Then there's the case for a "Clearly White" Pixel 4a 5G. It apparently won't ship until 2021 - if it arrives at all. Prosser believes that version of the phone will just be canceled.

The Pixel 4a 5G's shipping delay is puzzling, but it is also possible that Google's cheap 5G phone has been affected by the coronavirus outbreak that has delayed the launch of other phones this year. The standard Pixel 4a did not launch until August, after being anticipated months earlier.

Google has already told us to expect the Pixel 4a 5G to be priced at $499; the Pixel 5's price is unknown, but rumors suggest it will sell for $699.

All will be revealed at a Google event on September 30 at 2 p.m. ET, where a new Chromecast with Nest Audio speaker and Google TV is also expected to be announced.
