A new cloud gaming service is now available. Launching later this year, Luna will allow users to stream a variety of AAA and indie games via the cloud while enjoying deep integration with Twitch.

Previously known as Project Tempo in leaks and rumors, Luna will leverage the power of Amazon Web Services to provide a seamless cloud gaming experience that does not require lengthy downloads or updates, Amazon said. The Amazon Luna Plus channel is $5.99 per month for Early Access, and the Luna controller is $49.99. There will also be a Ubisoft channel later this year; it is not yet known if games will be available a la carte on Luna.

The Amazon Luna Plus lineup includes quite a few notable titles, from big AAA titles to smaller indie titles, including Control, Resident Evil 7, GRID, Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair," and "Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons."

Amazon has also signed a deal with Ubisoft to provide a channel dedicated to the publisher's games. This gives them access to major titles such as "Assassin's Creed Valhalla," "Far Cry 6," and "Immortals: Phoenix Rising" on the day they are released on consoles and PC. Amazon also has other other channels from major publishers in the future, it said.

According to Amazon, Luna Plus members can play on two devices at once and enjoy games at up to 4K resolution and 60 frames per second. at up to 4K resolution and 60 frames per second.

Luna will be available on Amazon Fire TV, PC, and Mac in addition to iPhone and iPad via a web app; Android support is also planned. The iOS offering is interesting because Apple famously blocked Microsoft from offering Xbox Game Pass on the iPhone in its original form.

Amazon will offer the $50 Luna Controller, which promises low-latency gaming by syncing directly to the cloud rather than via Bluetooth (the Google Stadia controller has similar capabilities). This Alexa-enabled gamepad promises to reduce latency from 17 to 30 milliseconds, which will be key when streaming games from the cloud. It will also make it easier to go back and forth between, say, a Fire TV stick and a smartphone without having to constantly re-pair.

Don't want to shell out $50 for a new controller? Luna will support a variety of input options, including keyboards, mice, and standard Bluetooth controllers.

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of Luna is its seamless integration with Twitch, Amazon's hugely popular game streaming platform; you can easily find the Twitch stream of any game within the Luna app and use Luna to Google Stadia has a similar level of integration with YouTube streams with its Click to Play feature, but it does not yet appear to be available for many major games.
