This year's iPhone 12 is going to be more expensive than usual, according to a group of analysts interviewed by CNN.

They predict some interesting upgrades for the iPhone, but their thoughts on Apple's potential pricing will make some potential customers unhappy. And it's all because of 5G.

The cost of adding a 5G component to the handset means that the more expensive iPhone 12 model could cost $100 more than the equivalent iPhone 11 model. To make matters worse, one analyst, Tom Forte of DA Davidson, also believes that there may not be a cheaper version of the iPhone 12 now that the iPhone SE exists as a more affordable iPhone experience option.

Incidentally, the basic iPhone 11, which was introduced last year, was priced at $699, while the next model, the iPhone 11 Pro, was priced at $999. Depending on which analysis you believe, the cheapest iPhone this year could be $799 or even $1,099 if Apple chooses not to continue with the cheapest number of devices.

The iPhone has been priced higher than last year before. We have heard before that a $50 price increase, or a $50 to $100 increase, is necessary because of the addition of an OLED display and 5G parts to all models. However, other predictions say the price will not go up thanks to the new battery design.

However, there is still hope for a better price, as it is difficult to predict how much the iPhone will fetch. As Bank of America analyst Wamsi Mohan said, "Pricing is always the biggest unknown for Apple. Let's hope Apple surprises us with a more generous price tag at the release event.

Price aside, there are plenty of reasons to look forward to the iPhone 12 announcement.

For example, analysts are unanimous that the iPhone 12 will be the first iPhone to support 5G. Rival manufacturers have been producing 5G handsets for several years, but the fact that Apple will include 5G technology in its phones is significant given the large number of existing users.

However, there are rumors of a split between basic iPhone 12 models and more expensive iPhone 12 Pros. adding mmWave-compatible 5G components is expensive, so only the top-of-the-line iPhone models will work on all 5G networks, while cheaper cheaper models are believed to work only on the more common but slower sub-6GHz version of 5G.

A new 4G iPhone is also planned for users who do not care about 5G or simply do not have access in their local area. However, it is unclear if this is an alternative version of the iPhone 12 or an upgraded iPhone SE. However, the cable may be bundled with a more luxurious braided version than the standard USB-to-Lightning cable.

Finally, it seems certain that the iPhone 12 Pro model will have a new LiDAR sensor on the back. In addition to the existing main/ultrawide/telephoto combination debuted on the iPhone 11 Pro, the added depth sensor will help with photography effects like portrait mode, as well as the phone's AR capabilities.

Now all that's left is for Apple to show us the phone in action. After the Time Flies event earlier this month ended without any mention of the iPhone, it is believed that the iPhone 12 line will finally debut in October, with October 13 being the most likely date among leakers.
