Razor killer Unveiled - Meet the Ultimate Electric Scooter

There are many electric scooters, but few that you can sit on and ride around on; Razor's EcoSmart Metro HD is one of the few, and the only one on our list of best electric scooters.

Glion's newest electric scooter, the Glion Balto, looks to be an even better alternative with a more adjustable design, a removable battery, and a folding feature for more convenient storage.

The Glion Balto is available for pre-order at Glion.com for $499 and will ship in November. At that point the price will go up to $699.

Like the Razor EcoSmart Metro HD, the Glion Balto has a seat fixed to the scooter's footrest rear post. However, the Balto's seat post has a quick-release latch that allows it to be converted into a stand-up scooter if desired.

The Balto also has a removable basket that mounts behind the seat, which, like the EcoSmart Metro, makes it a good scooter for a quick trip into town to pick up groceries.

The Balto comes with a headlight and taillight - a safety feature that the Razor lacks - and a mount for a rearview mirror.

Like Gullion's other electric scooter, the Gullion Dolly, the Balto can be folded for easy storage in an apartment. Also, thanks to its two small running wheels, the Balto should be easy to carry when not being ridden. The running wheels are built into a small rack, which supports Balto when not being ridden and stores the luggage when scooting.

According to Gullion, Balto's 500-watt hub-mounted motor and 36V, 10.5 amp-hour battery are suitable for a top speed of about 17 mph and a range of 20 miles. This is about the same as the EcoSmart Metro HD, which is not the Apollo Explore, but should be fast enough for most riders.

The Baltic's batteries are removable for easy recharging, and there is an option to swap batteries if you need to travel long distances. Additional batteries cost $199 each. Gullion also sells an inverter for $75, which allows the Baltic's batteries to be used as a power source for laptops, smartphones, and other portable electronic devices.

Overall, the Balto appears to be a very well thought-out electric scooter: it can be ridden standing or sitting, folds up for easy storage, and has a large basket for carrying luggage. I'm looking forward to putting some miles on it when it ships this November.
