Don't buy new phones yet — these are the most anticipated phones of the year

As the time for smartphone upgrades approaches, we are seeing discounted prices on iPhone 11 and other devices. Don't be fooled by these promotions. You should wait at least a little while before purchasing a new phone.

For starters, the iPhone 12 series will be announced next month, with four new models coming out, all with 5G capabilities. And on the Android side, there will be some major developments from now through November with the release of several new models. [From the $349 Google Pixel 4a and $399 iPhone SE to the $1,299 Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and even the $1,999 Galaxy Z Fold 2, there are some good phones to buy right now. But a look at what's coming up will show you why our list of the best phones will look so different in just one month. Here's a taste of what's coming and why you should be patient.

Samsung's Galaxy S20 FE (Fun Edition) has been announced and should offer strong flagship performance at a reasonable price. Specs include a 6.5-inch display with 120 Hz refresh rate, Snapdragon 865 processor, and 4,500 mAh battery. It also has three rear cameras and a 32MP selfie shooter.

The biggest draw is the price, which is only $699. In addition, it comes in a choice of six colors. However, compared to the $999 Galaxy S20, there are some trade-offs: less RAM, larger bezels, and a plastic back.

According to multiple reports, Google does not intend to release a high-priced flagship device this year. Instead, we can expect to see the Google Pixel 5 with "adequate" performance from the Snapdragon 765G processor, a 6-inch display with a 90 Hz refresh rate, and 5G. The Pixel 5 will be Google's usual likely to feature two rear cameras, along with computational photography magic. Expected price is between $599 and $699.

If you don't want or need a flagship phone, the Pixel 4a 5G should offer a clean Android 11 experience at a price between the $349 Pixel 4a and Pixel 5. Ironically, the Pixel 4a 5G could feature a 6.3-inch display, which would be larger than the Pixel 5's panel, but is expected to have a slower refresh rate of 60Hz. There will be only one 12MP camera on the back, which should provide the same high-quality camera experience as the Pixel 4 and standard Pixel 4a.

OnePlus is reportedly planning to follow up its successful OnePlus 8 and OnePlus Nord with two new phones, the first being the OnePlus 8T, which along with a faster Snapdgraon 865 Plus processor should offer the fastest charging ever at 65W. It should offer the fastest charging ever. Other rumors include a 6.55-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate, four rear cameras, and a 4,500mAh battery; OnePlus will be holding an event on October 14, so more details will be revealed then. [Rumors, however, suggest that the company will announce another device with 5G capabilities, the OnePlus Nord N10 5G, for under $400. Leaked specs include a 6.49-inch OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate, a quad camera setup centered around a 64MP main lens, and a Snapdragon 690 chip. It is unclear when this device will be available, but it may show up at the OnePlus event on October 14.

Apple is expected to announce four new iPhone 12 devices this October, including the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 Mini, 6.1-inch iPhone 12, 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro, and 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max.

All four new iPhones should feature OLED displays, 5G connectivity, and Apple's fast new A14 Bionic processor. However, while the regular iPhone 12 models will likely have two rear cameras, the iPhone 12 Pros will add a telephoto lens along with a LiDAR sensor, which should improve photography and augmented reality performance.

And even if you have your heart set on the cheaper iPhone 11, the current model will likely be discounted the day the iPhone 12 goes on sale.

This fall will be the busiest in years in terms of new cell phone releases. And it's not just for all of the new and exciting phones; we expect an avalanche of discounts, especially on older phones, heading into the Amazon Prime Day and Black Friday deals season.
