A new Amazon Fire TV Stick is on the way, according to images leaked by WinFuture ahead of Amazon's hardware event on Thursday.

The publication claims the images show an "Amazon Fire TV Stick Lite," which is likely the successor to the discontinued $35 second-generation FIre TV Stick. The most interesting part of this leak is the remote control, where there are buttons dedicated to the TV.

This TV button suggests that Amazon may play a larger role in connecting live TV to the Fire service. Currently, Sling TV and YouTube TV are available for streaming, and Hulu + Live TV is "coming soon," according to a July Amazon blog post.

Thus, Amazon could build on these Live TV options and bring more live TV broadcasts into the Fire's user interface, making it easier to find live sports and more. However, if the Amazon Fire TV Stick Lite is used with a regular TV, the TV button may only be a way to switch from the Fire interface to regular TV broadcasts.

Increased access to live TV broadcasts would certainly make the Amazon Fire TV Stick Lite a more challenging means of Google's Chromecast. However, the imminent arrival of the Google Chromecast 4 Sabrina, offering a set of features taken from the Android TV platform, could be another competitor for Amazon.

Otherwise, the Amazon Fire TV Stick Lite is likely to be a cheaper version of the 4K TV Stick, supporting streaming at 1080p and lacking some features such as HDR support. However, it will likely be priced lower than the $50 4K model and should help challenge the cheaper Google Chromecast dongle.
