WhatsApp may soon support multiple devices.

In August, WABetaInfo, a website that analyzes beta versions of popular messaging apps, discovered the ability for users to access their WhatsApp accounts from four different devices simultaneously. Currently, the site reports via Gizmochina that multi-device support is in the "final stages of testing."

The launch of multi-device support will allow WhatsApp users to access the same account from different devices simultaneously. Messages will be synchronized in real time across devices, allowing users to switch from the WhatsApp app on their phone to the desktop version on their laptop, for example, and still continue the conversation.

This feature is standard in competing chat programs, but WhatsApp does not yet support multiple devices. Nevertheless, WABetaInfo is confident that this feature will be released soon.

The site has even released what it says is a screenshot of WhatsApp's new desktop UI. This UI screenshot also reveals that the message synchronization process is protected by end-to-end encryption.

To support multiple devices, it appears that users will need to assign "linked devices" on a new settings page. This page is currently open to beta testers, suggesting that WhatsApp may support multiple devices in the next beta version.
