OnePlus8T Killer Feature Revealed - This will blow off the iPhone12Pro

One of the OnePlus 8 Pro's best features was its 120Hz refresh rate display, and now we know that the OnePlus 8T will also have one.

Our sibling site TechRadar heard from OnePlus CEO Pete Lau that the 8T will have a 120Hz display, as we had expected it to be an upgrade from the 90Hz display on the OnePlus 8. not that surprising.

OnePlus has a habit of filtering Pro phone features into the T version of their standard phones. This was also seen with the OnePlus 7T, which now has a 90Hz display after the OnePlus 7 Pro had such a screen about six months ago.

However, these are uncertain times, with the coronavirus pandemic disrupting supply chains and smartphone release schedules. We saw this with the iPhone 12, which missed the traditional September release window and appears to have been delayed to October. And while we had expected the iPhone 12 Pro to feature a 120Hz display to keep up with the likes of Samsung's Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, recent leaks indicate otherwise.

So we are rather pleased that Lau has confirmed that the OnePlus 8T will indeed have a 120Hz refresh rate. However, Lau has more to say to TechRadar. [In addition to 120Hz, the OnePlus 8T features a 2.5D flexible panel for the first time." Compared to regular panels, the 2.5D flexible screen offers improved light transmission and maximum brightness can reach 1100 nits."

Simply put, this should mean that the OnePlus 8T will feature a brighter 6.55-inch display that will take up the bulk of the phone's font.

Lau further stated that the OnePlus 8T's screen will have "the highest color accuracy possible across the industry" through rigorous color calibration. Of course, proof of this will be shown in tests of the 8T, but OnePlus smartphone displays have always tended to be quite impressive.

With a 120Hz display, the OnePlus 8T could be one of the more affordable phones with such a high refresh rate; the OnePlus 8 was not cheap at $699, but still offered specs commensurate with its price. If the OnePlus 8T can come in at the same price with some internal upgrades and 120Hz, it will have the iPhone 12 worried. According to other leaks, the OnePlus 8T is expected to follow the design of the previous model, but with a Snapdragon 865 Plus chip. It may also feature the triple camera array of the OnePlus 8 while adding a fourth sensor (2MP portrait sensor). We expect the OnePlus 8T to improve on the OnePlus 8's somewhat middling photography performance and instead reference the OnePlus 8 Pro's Stone camera results.

The OnePlus 8T is expected to be revealed on October 14, so we won't have to wait long to see what OnePlus has been working on after the excellent OnePlus Nord.
