Windows10 now runs the Android app, but there is a catch

If you have a Windows 10 PC and an Android phone, the two devices will now work more closely together. This is because the new "Your Phone" feature will allow you to run Android apps on Windows 10.

The Your Phone service update began rolling out a few days ago after the feature was released from the Windows Insider program's beta testing environment. The new Your Phone feature will only work on supported Samsung phones The catch is that. Other Android phones will be able to control apps from Windows 10, but we don't know when that will be.

We tried out the updated Your Phone by connecting our Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus to one of our Windows 10 laptops. And the feature works relatively well after some initial failures with notifications and connections.

Selecting the Apps section in Your Phone brings up a list of all the apps on the phone; clicking on one launches a window that is basically a screen recording of the connected phone. From there, you can control the apps on the phone from Windows 10.

In our experience there is a lag, a slight but still noticeable delay between clicking an app or button and the action occurring. We found that the connection between our Galaxy Note 10 Plus and Your Phone also degraded initially if the tool was not used for a bit.

However, once upgraded, the Your Phone app worked rather well, except for the aforementioned lag.

Given that people tend not to leave their phones, there is an argument that this new feature to Your Phone is a feature to have. However, for those who prefer to keep their eyes on the PC display and their hands off the keyboard and mouse, Your Phone will allow them to check various Android apps and Galaxy phone notifications and messages without having to reach for their phone.

Enhanced integration between any device and Windows 10 is not a bad thing: Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, for example, will allow you to play Xbox and Microsoft first-party games on your current Xbox console and Windows 10 PC. You will be able to play them on current Xbox consoles and Windows 10 PCs. The Xbox app will also allow users to perform a variety of functions, such as Xbox Live friend chat and achievement logs, not only on Xbox but also on Windows 10 machines.

Expect this to be extended with the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S as Microsoft grows both the Xbox and Windows 10 ecosystems. And expect Your Phone to be the tip of the spear for closer interaction between Windows 10 and smartphones.
