iPadOS14 is Here - How to Download to iPad Now

iPadOS 14, the new version of iOS made for the iPad, is finally available. First unveiled at the de facto WWDC event, iPadOS 14 updates the iPad in a number of ways, including bringing the iPad closer to the Mac and improving Apple Pencil skills.

These more Mac-like features help the iPad take full advantage of its wider screen, the operating system leaves the iPhone aspect behind, moves the menu buttons from bottom to left, and optimizes search.

iPadOS 14 can also automatically sense objects you draw, highlight written text to use in documents, and create reminders and appointments.

Here's how to download iPadOS 14:

Fortunately, all iPads with iPadOS 13 can get iPadOS 14. Even the slightly older iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4. Of course, the iPad Air 4 is not listed here because it will be running iPadOS 14.

Not to be a parent, but you should avoid installing iPadOS 14 before actually backing up your iPad. There is always a risk with updates, especially major ones.

Here's how to back up with iCloud:

You can also back up locally; use the Finder if you are using Catalina or iTunes if you are using pre-Mojave.

How to backup locally:

iPadOS 14 should appear here. Tap Download and Install.

From there, the iPad update will begin downloading. When it is time to install, your phone will reboot. The installation will take a while, so please be patient.
