Best of IFA2020: Standout Gadgets and Gear from this year's Show

IFA 2020 was definitely a different kind of technology event. In previous years, IFA has had the largest attendance in Europe, with many people flocking to Berlin to see the latest consumer electronics just before the holiday shopping season. This year's event was reduced in size due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which limited the number of attendees to exhibitors and press representatives.

Although we were unable to make it to Berlin for IFA 2020, we watched from afar and were impressed by the many new products on display. This year's exhibition showcased many exciting technologies to watch for in the coming months.

From laptops and wearables to smart appliances and home entertainment devices, here are some of the best products presented at IFA 2020.

We love testing laptops and discovering that it has battery life all day long. So we were utterly shocked when Acer announced that its upcoming laptop, the Spin 7, would last several days (yes, plural) on the same charge. [This increase in battery life is also thanks to the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 5G compute platform. In addition, the Spin 7's "steam blue" casing with gold accents is a truly elegant finish. - Henry T. Casey

Philips' newest TV rounds out a year of releases with an impressive tribute to sight and sound. The Philips OLED+935 features four-sided Ambilight technology aimed at providing a more immersive experience. Several other OLED sets from Philips only feature three-sided Ambilight, but the 935 outperforms them by projecting color from the top and sides of the screen as well as the bottom

In addition, the TV maker continues to partner with Bowers & Wilkins to equip the Philips OLED+935 with 70W 3.1.2 channel speakers. It also features the P5 artificial intelligence processor, Perfect Natural Reality upscaling engine, and Android TV and Android 9 Pie smart TV platforms. The 55- and 65-inch versions of the Philips OLED+935 will ship this month, and a compact 45-inch model will be available in October. - Philip Michaels

TCL is trying to prove that you don't have to spend a fortune to get truly wireless earphones; TCL's MoveAudio S200 earphones will cost €99 when they debut this fall. The S200 is definitely less expensive than rival earbuds like Apple's AirPods.

MoveAudio's earbuds come in three different color options and certainly look the part. (For this low price, you can expect features such as ENC noise reduction to eliminate ambient noise and four built-in microphones with beamforming technology to hear your voice during calls; TCL promises 3.5 hours of playback time, but MoveAudio S200's charging case the playback time jumps to 23 hours. - Philip Michaels

The Panasonic Lumix S5 is the ultimate full-frame mirrorless camera: 24.2 megapixel sensor in a compact design, in-body image stabilization, and dual native ISO to minimize noise. Like the other robot vacuums Neato showed off at IFA, the D10 uses IDAR-based mapping and can store up to three floor plans. 6,200mAh battery can clean for up to 150 minutes, enough time for pets to deposit dust and other particles. Active noise cancellation is a welcome feature in any headphone or earpiece. It is not always comfortable and is not practical if your head or the ears connected to it bounce around during a workout. Qualcomm's Adaptive Active Noise Cancellation is a new technology in audio equipment that adapts to how the earphones fit in the ear and adjusts in real time to provide consistent noise cancellation.

Qualcomm plans to add adaptive ANC technology to its QCC514x system-on-chip, announced earlier this year, and looks forward to seeing what audio equipment manufacturers can do with this promising innovation. - Philip Michaels
